"Twilight" Delight

I've loved reading probably since I learned to read. Honestly, I don't remember a time when I didn't. I grew up in a time when we didn't have 24 hour cartoons, we didn't even have 24 hour television! No videos, no video games, no computers. There were even a couple of times when we didn't even have a TV. So, what did the poor, deprived children of my time do? We played and we read books.

I distinctly remember searching the library at my elementary school for new books and being thrilled when I found a whole section of short biographies of famous women. I read them all. I don't remember who they were all about, but there was one on Helen Keller. Anyway, I could get so lost in the stories, and often would try to continue the story in my mind when the book was done. I remember that feeling, knowing I was almost done with the book and being so sad that the story would have to end.

As an adult, I watch TV (probably too much) and love going to the movies. But, nothing can replace the joy I get in reading a really good book. I read just about anything, romance, mysteries, mostly fiction. I love Harry Potter and was sad to see that story end.

My daughter, Sadie, told me she wanted to read "Twilight". It's all the rage right now and I was so glad to see her exicited about a book. (She hasn't been much of a reader.) She spent several days with her nose in the book. I have never seen her like that. She was so excited when her Aunt Ellen bought her the three books for her birthday. She started the second one right away. I decided to see what all the talk was about and started to read Twilight for myself. Suffice it to say, I got NOTHING done on Tuesday. I had to tear myself away to fix dinner for my ignored family. The laundry sat in baskets and the dishes went undone. I loved the book. I like "grown-up" books and read them all the time. But, fantasy books like this one take me back to being that little girl who got lost in the story. It's a good thing that Sadie took her book to school with her today, I really needed to fold laundry and with it here, once again I would've got nothing done. As it is, I'm waiting for her to get home so I can steal it from her. I highly recommend this book. I am so impressed by Stephanie Meyer, what an amazing author. I can only dream of writing like that.

OH...TWILIGHT....I stayed up all night long when I was reading those!! Everyone was talking about how good they were...I was hooked right from the get go...the fourth one is coming out in August...can't wait!!! Have you checked out her website? It's stepheniemeyer.com...You can read the first chapter of Twilight from Edward's point of view. She's also coming out with another book called The Host due out sometime next month. Sorry, I'm going on and on...just love those books, though.

Whew! I was beginning to think I was the only 40ish something woman out there that completely 'lost it' for the Twilight series and Edward! "Not now kids...Mommy's getting to the good part - Edward and Belle are headed to the meadow...go fix yourselves a PB&J for dinner!" I can't wait for the next installment but of course I'll have to go back and re-read the first three AGAIN just to make sure I remember what went on (HA! HA!) Welcome to the club!
