When I was a kid, General Conference meant a break from church and a lazy, laid-back Sunday. My children see it the same way, I'm sure. (Tho' Hunter kept telling me that he hates conference. I'm sure it cut in on his cartoon time.) I have to admit that I still enjoy the laid-back Sunday, but I love conference for so many more reasons than that. I love getting to hear the counsel of our Prophet and other leaders. It reminds me how blessed we are to have this 'link' to heaven and our Father and Brother. It keeps in mind that They are both aware of us and our lives and the struggles and trials we go through. When a talk is given and it seems it was written just for me, I know that in a way it was.
One of my favorite talks was by Sister Elaine S. Dalton. I don't know that my kids heard her talk, so I plan to use it as a Family Home Evening lesson. I think my favorite quote of the conference came from her when she said, "You must never underestimate the power of your righteous influence." I also love listening to Pres. Eyring. I love the way he gets emotional, makes me realize how strongly he feels about his testimony. His message about unity in our homes was so good.
President Monson, of course, had wonderful advice for us. I'm glad he seems to be continuing Pres. Hinckley's push for optimism and happines. Things we need to remember,
"What is most important almost always involves the people around us... Send that note to the friend you've been neglecting; give your child a hug; give your parents a hug; say 'I love you' more; always express your thanks.. Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey and share our love with friends and family. One day, each of us will run out of tomorrows."
How grateful I am for the gospel, to have the knowledge that God has prophets and apostles on the earth to lead and guide His people. I'm so thankful for conference and the opportunity to get that spiritual 'boost' I always seem to need. To have the chance to remember again why I'm here and what my purpose is.

What more can I say than, Amen. You put what I have been feeling so well. I always feel a little sad when conference is over. Thank goodness we have the church magazines to review what was taught.
You put it so well! I agree 1000%
I was so pleased with myself this Conference weekend. I took notes AND stayed awake. Really enjoyed it.
I really liked that quote by President Monson as well. I think it was a great reminder and put the unity into perspective.
