I know that everyone has their own comfort foods, things from our childhood that bring back fond memories of home. I consider myself a pretty good cook, not as good as my mom or my sister, Ellen, but I can hold my own. My family doesn't complain. OK, that's so not true. I have kids, 7 of them, which means there are about 4 meals that I make that everyone likes. Most nights I hear something like:
-"Mo-om, you know I don't like tacos, can I have some cereal?"
-"Lasagna? I hate lasagna!" me-"I thought you liked it." "No, I like spagetti, not lasagna." Hmm, I was pretty sure they were made from the same ingredients.
One thing I've never made, that is one of my favorite comfort foods, is fried chicken. This is big favorite of my siblings. If my mom asks what we want for a birthday dinner, you can almost guarentee that the request will be for fried chicken, potatoes and gravy. For me, it isn't so much the chicken, as it is the gravy. Milk gravy made from fried chicken drippings? Oh, I could drink it! So, I decided to try it on Sunday. I have to say, it came out pretty good. (Normally, my husband would've thought it weird that I took pictures of food I was cooking, but since this blog, he didn't even raise an eyebrow.)

*Mush (oatmeal) with toast. You have to eat the oatmeal on the toast. (So proud that my kids do that.)
*Grits- my dad, brothers and sons eat them with over-easy, gross, soft yolk eggs. I just add butter.
*El Pato- a recipe my mom got from my aunt. It's spicy and delicious.
*El Pato- a recipe my mom got from my aunt. It's spicy and delicious.
*Roast and potatoes and gravy- I got served this only once on my mission and I was in heaven!
*Pasty- another recipe from Aunt Daphne. It's hamburger, potatoes and onions baked in a pie crust, smothered in ketchup.
*Tacos in a flour tortilla with ketchup, there was no salsa when I was growing up.
*Turkey noodle soup, made from the Thanksgiving turkey and homemade noodles, yum.
*Last, but definitely not least, my mom's homemade bread. There is nothing that smells better than walking into her house and smelling fresh bread from the oven. (Sadly, I've never made it.)

Ok, so now, if you leave me a comment, tell me one (or more) of your comfort foods. (Maybe I'll start a recipe blog so we can share! )

Those are all delicious, especially mom's bread. It doesn't get better than that! I know my main comfort food thats quick and easy is macaroni and tomato sauce. LOVE IT!
Before I share my comfort foods I'd like to say, "I love Mush" and that's what my dad called it when we were growing up too!
K, I love French Toast, Pikelets, and Whole Wheat Pancakes. If I could eat whatever I wanted to without consequences that's what I'd eat. With sausage or bacon of course. I too love bread (I'm seeing a trend here. CARB lover alert!) That's the naughty food, but I have to say, I've fallen in love with YAMS since I've change my ways (I know everyone's already heard, I can't stop talking about it. It's still a CARB).
My favorite comfort food is pasta - any kind, any way! I don't remember eating a lot of it as a kid though.
We had 'mush' too and I love it with brown sugar, raisins and milk. Yum! Neither of my kids will eat it though. That's probably my fault.

Unfortunately my comfort food is most all food.:) My favorite comfort meal is Ham, "Funeral" potatoes and a yummy homemade roll. YUM!
Julie...I tried calling you all day long today....I was hoping you'd bring Sadie tomorrow night? Megan really wants to see her. I hope you'll get this message...
Hmmmm...comfort food....I like carbs too! Homemade bread is soooo good. When I was little I remember my mom making ribs and potatoes...later I asked for her recipe...it's the packaged pork chop spice mix that comes with a bag to bake them in...it's so so good on ribs and so so easy! Yummy!
